The company said Virtual Green Data Center, VGDC, is the world’s first interactive green data center. It allows organizations to use avatars to explore the green data center by taking a self-guided, individual, or group tour.

The VGDC is in line with IBM’s $1 billion initiative announced last year to address the issue of energy efficiency in IT environments. As part of this initiative, IBM implemented a scalable green data center earlier this month for Vietnam-based Saigon Commercial Bank, and in August, it invested nearly $400m to set up two data centers in the US and Japan.

Joanne Bald, program director at ibm.com 3-D Internet, said: The VGDC is as green as it gets. It allows our customers and potential clients to interact with IBM’s green portfolio in a very environmentally friendly way. No airplanes burning fuel or rental cars, not even the hassle and time of travel arrangements.
