Under the contract, initially L-1 will develop the software that will link and expand the customer’s existing databases to enroll, manage and search using multimodal biometrics. Following the infrastructure development, the contract includes the deployment of more than 1,000 hand-held interagency identity detection equipment (HIIDE) devices throughout the country for mobile identity verification using finger, face, iris recognition technology, or a combination of all three. Software and services delivery will begin immediately and all devices are expected to ship within 20 months of the contract’s execution.
The HIIDE is a portable enrollment and recognition device and a hand-held tri-biometric system that allows users to enroll and match via any of the three primary biometrics: iris, finger and face. The iris biometric matching capabilities are based on L-1’s proprietary Daugman ’08 algorithm. The intuitive user interface makes it easy to enter biographic data to create a database on the enrolled subject, said L-1 Identity Solutions.
L1 claims that the HIIDE provides complete functionality while connected to a host PC or when operating in the field untethered.
