According to the company, the new HD3-P is a handheld display with probe that gives technician handling optical fiber a microscope for patch-cord inspections while still providing a probe microscope to inspect the bulkhead connector port.
With the new two-in-one functionality, the HD3-P provides reduction in inspection time and labor costs in the field. With the combination of two microscopes in one system, there is no need to change inspection tips on the probe, preventing the misplacing and mishandling of inspection tips that can cause cross-contamination of fiber.
The HD3-P has a 1.8 TFT LCD screen providing images of fiber-end faces with better resolution and comes standard with the GripSwitch power saver mode to conserve battery life. The HD3-P also provides contamination protection for the male patch cord end by allowing it to be parked in the patch cord module.
Matt Brown, director of product management for the JDSU communications test and measurement business segment, said: Our studies have demonstrated that the JDSU HD3-P cuts time-to-inspect in half, making it even easier to apply Inspect Before You Connect best practices when handling optical connectors. This reduction in cycle time allows technicians to significantly increase productivity enabling customers to rapidly realize labor cost savings.
