According to Alltel Wireless, the application can be downloaded directly to the handsets without additional software or support. Customers can use Alltel Mobile E-mail to connect to e-mail services such as AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail by entering their username and password one-time to establish the connection to their phone.
Alltel Mobile E-mail is also compatible with Microsoft Outlook Web Access, allowing customers to sync their work calendars and contacts without IT support or the need to run any software inside the firewall, the company said.
Small and medium size businesses can deploy and support Alltel Mobile E-mail using Workgroup Connector, powered by SEVEN, a desktop software service that allows one computer to centrally manage mobile e-mail access for up to 25 employees and provides access to Microsoft Exchange and other POP/IMAP corporate e-mail servers, the company added.
David Maddox, vice president of product marketing at Alltel Wireless, said: Customers rely on e-mail as a way to stay in touch with friends, family and business associates. Our customers want their devices to do so much more than just make calls. With Alltel Mobile E-mail, customers can send and reply to e-mail and manage their address book in a simple and seamless way.
