According to BT, the new service will allow its customers to choose from standard or premium traffic classes depending on the needs of their applications and can configure the service themselves using an online self-service portal.

Etherflow offers speeds from 10Mbit/s to 1Gbit/s to customers within reach of 106 core and access nodes that cover all the major business centers across the UK. According to BT, by March 2009, the range of speeds will be extended from 2Mbit/s to1Gbit/s and the number of access nodes will cross 600. Also by the end of 2009, it is expected that the service will be available from 1,000 21st Century Network (21CN) access nodes in the UK.

Royston Hoggarth, CEO BT Global Services UK, said: As the first business service to take advantage of 21CN, Etherflow is able to offer a self-service portal that makes it quicker and easier for businesses to manage and reconfigure the service as their needs change.

The UK households are to be benefited from Etherflow as well as I-Plate, an enhanced broadband service, recently launched by BT.

I -Plate filters out the electrical interference in the home caused by televisions, lighting and home wiring, which slows down broadband speed and affect the stability of connection. By fitting an I-Plate to the master socket, customers can experience broadband performance benefits. BT’s trials of the I-Plate have shown that filtered lines can deliver a range of broadband improvements, including faster speeds and more stable broadband connection.
