Unify today reflected on the Unified Communications industry in 2014 and shared their expectations for the industry in 2015.

The company, who provide unified communications solutions, explained that the rise of flexible working and the increasing presence of millennials had fundamentally changed the modern workplace throughout 2014. They argued there would be a decline in the concept of ‘work-life balance’ as this was replaced by ‘work-life integration’.

Dean Douglas, Chief Executive Officer of Unify, commented: "Today’s workers demand intuitive apps, instant gratification from technology, and the ability to work from anywhere with seamless collaboration across multiple devices."

The trends anticipated for 2015 included a decline in the use of email, facilitated by a rise in Unified Communications platforms. One of these, Unify’s Circuit solution, launched in 2014, combines several communications platforms including voice, video, screen sharing, messaging, and file sharing into one app, thereby reducing the time spent on switching between applications.

Bill Hurley, Chief Marketing Officer at Unify commented: "With Circuit, we stepped back and took a completely fresh look not at what UC technology is, but what it could be, to develop a solution that is natural and intuitive for human beings to use, with a focus on the human condition as it relates to the New Way to Work."

Unify claimed that the importance of work location would decline further as workers continued to become more mobile, aided by technology.

They also added that 2015 would see the increasing prominence of the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT will take up almost 1/3 of the total planned telecom spend in 2015 and spur an explosion in the quantity of data available.
