Mediware said that the Provincial Government of the Western Cape (PGWC) agreement defines a rollout program to support as many as 40 public sector hospitals in the region, in addition to more than a dozen community clinics.
Fully implemented, the system is expected to service about 10% of the country’s total population. This integrated approach is expected to provide a major advancement of PGWC’s ability to monitor, control and audit medicines usage on a regional basis, added Mediware.
According to Mediware, the agreement covers the immediate upgrade of three main academic hospitals in the Cape Town metropolitan area to a single JAC enterprise edition pharmacy management system. The new enterprise edition reportedly enables customers such as PGWC to operate multiple facilities on a single architectural model that shares common high level data while still allowing separate tailoring at the individual site level. The high level unification of the system also allows for reports to be generated from the site level right up to the regional level.
