Nottingham Trent University has chosen IBM Cognos 8 Planning to meet its growing management planning requirements. The new system will replace spreadsheets, so far used by the university.

IBM Cognos 8 Planning is a finance-managed software that provides real-time visibility into resource requirements and forecasted business results. It supports driver-based planning and rolling forecasts, and enables the university staff to analyse various scenarios before actually investing the resources.

James Lacey, director of finance at Nottingham Trent University, said: “We want to ensure our colleagues have the quality of information they need to make the right decisions. IBM Cognos technology will help us to ensure that we meet the targets we set.”

IBM Cognos 8 Planning enables users to attach any file type to a cell, model, or submission of a forecast to share the policies behind plans and forecasts with their colleagues. It is flexible enough for deployment with web browser or Microsoft Excel interface with the convenience of a spreadsheet.

David Swayne, director of information systems at Nottingham Trent University, said: “We are determined to choose best-of-breed systems for each of our information management needs. When it comes to planning, the robust IBM Cognos platform was the clear choice for our planning needs.”

A few other users of Cognos’ software include University of Kent, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Florida, and  the Federal Ministry of Finance Austria.
