The system was bought by a consortium of companies who are members of Toolmakers Cluster of Slovenia (TCS), including RITS, EMO Orodjarna and VALJI Store. The main objectives of TCS are to increase production volume and competitiveness for Slovenian toolmakers in foreign markets, to accelerate technology transfer between companies, to shorten the time between research and production, and to increase the development and implementation of new technologies.

One immediate application for TCS’ laser engineered net shaping (LENS) system will be to deposit wear-resistant coatings on tooling to improve useful life and decrease overall manufacturing costs. TCS chose the LENS system to shorten delivery times and increase the quality and durability of tools for the automotive, aerospace, defense, electronic and domestic appliances industries.

Tone Sagadin, manager of TCS, said: The addition of the LENS 850-R to our manufacturing and repair capabilities is further evidence of our commitment to remain at the forefront of tool making technology. With the LENS system, TCS will be in a unique position to provide repair, rework and enhanced manufacturing capabilities across Europe, and to expand into new areas with new materials to provide even more complete metalworking services.
