Earlier this month the company revealed it was in advanced discussions with the US-based electronic retailer Best Buy for further development of Best Buy Mobile in the US.
Best Buy is a US retailer of consumer electronics, PCs, entertainment software and appliances. Best Buy Mobile is a US venture with Carphone, whereby the UK ISP and handset retailer has trial concessions to sell mobile phones in nine Best Buy stores located in the New York area.
Now, it seems that the trial has been a success, and Carphone’s chief executive Charles Dunstone said it would sell mobile handsets from between 150 to 200 Best Buy stores over the next 18 months. Dunstone said this roll-out would concentrate on the New York, Boston, and then Texas regions.
During a strategy update, Dunstone also said that Carphone would target 3.5 million broadband customers in the UK by 2010, up from its current customer base of 2.3 million.
Carphone also said it would install more of its LLU equipment inside BT telephone exchanges. It currently has its equipment in 1,024 exchanges, but hopes to install its equipment in 1,650 exchanges by the end of March 2008.
