Yahoo’s oneSearch is a search service designed to serve the needs of mobile users by delivering results directly on the screen of their handsets and eliminating the need for consumers to navigate through multiple links. OneSearch collects content from a variety of sources across the open web, and returns localized news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, Yahoo Answers, web images, web and mobile web sites.

Yahoo’s oneSearch feature can be accessed through mobile web browser by visiting m.yahoo.com, and search results can be assessed in a mobile compatible format.

In October 2007, Yahoo collaborated with Telefonica SA in several European and Latin American markets to deliver ‘oneSearch’ services to its customers, and the deal covered up to 100 million Telefonica phone subscribers.

According to Reuters, Yahoo has been trying to attract subscribers to its Internet services delivered via mobile phones rather than via computer browsers. In contrast, its rival Google has been trying to launch software to develop a new class of Internet-ready phones.

In related deals, on November 13, 2007, Yahoo entered into partnerships with nine mobile carriers in Asia to offer mobile web services. Also in June 2007, Yahoo entered into similar partnerships with six mobile carriers in Asia. In recent weeks, Yahoo has begun offering web search services via SMS text messaging in the UK, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain and the US.
