McWhirter is also the founder of the Drools open source business rules engine, which JBoss acquired in October 2005 when it hired the project lead Mark Proctor and launched its JBoss Rules variant.
Reporting directly to Sacha Labourey who is JBoss’s chief technology officer, McWhirter will be responsible for leading the JBoss.org Forge project to supply developers with tools, automation, and infrastructure to improve their development.
He will also head up the drafting of JBoss.org content and user interface efforts, and will be the public face of the JBoss community.
