North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has implemented the new Medway patient administration system installed by System C, a provider of integrated IT solutions for the UK health and social care sectors.
The Medway patient administration system is a major new computer system which stores extensive information on all patients. It is claimed to seamlessly interoperate with existing systems and offer a single patient record for use by clinicians and administration staff.
The patient administration system can be either independently used or fully integrated with clinical systems from System C or third parties.
According to System C, the project involved the transfer of 1.67 million current and archived patient records from two separate patient administration systems into one customised system. System C is said to have reconnected 46 separate clinical computer systems to the new patient administration system.
The new computer system will also cater to the trust’s patients using outpatient services or radiology at Doddington Hospital and the Princess of Wales Hospital located in Ely.
System C chief operating officer Beverley Bryant said: “This has been a massive and complex deployment exercise. The new Medway software replaces two separate patient record systems and the project has involved combining data and standardising processes from both.
“We are delighted that the Trust and System C teams have worked so well together to deliver our 26th successful hospital PAS deployment.”
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust runs Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland Hospitals.
Previously, the clinical staff of the trust working across its hospital sites had to navigate two different clinical systems to carry out important tasks such as accessing patient correspondence, looking up test results, and dictating letters. The new patient administration system is said to offer a consolidated system for all such functions.
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust finance director David Pratt said: “This new system takes us another step further in unifying our Trust since the merger of Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals with Hinchingbrooke Hospital in April 2017.”
