Google is expected to unveil a wiki component to its Google Apps service, as well as a hosted Powerpoint competitor, while Microsoft is expected to deliver a bundle of software and services apps under its Windows Live brand.

Microsoft told the New York Times this weekend that it will release a Unified Installer application this week, which will bring new versions of Windows Live Photo Gallery, Mail, Messenger 8.5 and OneCare Family Safety to Windows users.

It will also include Live Writer, which, far from being a hosted version of Word, is primarily a cut-down word-processor-like tool designed for creating blogs.

Google, meanwhile, is expected to unveil its promised presentation-creation software, a would-be Powerpoint rival, to sit alongside its existing word-processing and spreadsheet application services.

The search company said earlier this year that it would release presentation software in the summer. In June, it announced it had acquired Zenter, which had been developing such a service.

It is also expected to deliver the fruits of its acquisition of wiki maker JotSpot, which it acquired about a year ago, possibly under its existing Google Apps brand of home and small-business productivity tools.
