The holding is a legacy of a 2002 deal when Philips sold its speech processing telephony and voice control business units for $35.4m to SkillSoft, which later merged with Nuance.

Electronics conglomerate Royal Philips Electronics has continued to unload its IT interests with the 60m euros ($83.4) sale of its 2.5% holding in speech technology vendor Nuance Communications.
