According to Hitachi, higher-order active shim technology (HOAST) is another feature that enhances the patient experience. The HOAST enables uniform radio frequency fat saturation in large fields of view and drives saturation without uncomfortable patient positioning. The company claims that the Echelon also includes the plane/all coil Radar patient motion compensating technique, which minimizes the need for patient restraint.
For one thing, the magnet allows nearly all studies, including those of the brain, to be done with the patient entering the magnet feet first. This scanner essentially provides a high performance short-bore magnet without some of the drawbacks typically associated with that design, said Shawn Etheridge, director, MR marketing at Hitachi Medical Systems America.
On the same day, Hitachi has also launched ECLOS16, a CT scanner designed to cater to imaging centers and community hospitals for non-cardiac CT scanning.
