The device is built on the new X Platform architecture and processing environment and has a serial port interface and Class 1 Div 2 certification for use in hazardous environments. In August 2007, Sierra introduced the X Platform, which is designed for high-bandwidth wireless access to mobile broadband networks for applications such as fleet management, commercial wireless networking, remote monitoring and security. The Raven XT’s predecessors, Raven X and PinPoint X devices are also based on this platform.
According to the company, the Raven XT is best suited for industrial communication solutions such as energy production and distribution, electric utilities, automation and infrastructure control and monitoring applications.
The company added that the Raven is equipped with a mini USB interface, which expands its functionality and integration options as well as simplifies the installation, troubleshooting and module level diagnostics. It is powered by ALEOS embedded intelligence that streamlines integration with legacy equipment and ensures a persistent network connection.
The Raven XT is supported by AceWare, which simplifies deployment and management of wireless solutions when integrated with ALEOS. The company claims that ALEOS is available only on the AirLink devices.
The commercial shipments of the device for North American CDMA and GSM networks are expected to begin in January 2008.
