The deal sees Santa Clara, California-based Sun certifying and supporting Novell’s SLED offering on its Ultra Workstation line, including the Ultra 20, Ultra 20 M2, Ultra 40, and Ultra 40 M2 models.
Sun already offered its own SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on the Ultra workstation machines, as well as its own Solaris Unix variant, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft’s Windows.
The addition of SLED to that list means that engineers and developers can now perform both high-performance engineering tasks and general office productivity applications on the same workstation, according to Waltham, Massachusetts-based Novell.
SLED supports three-dimensional desktop graphics, high-end video drivers, integrated search and the Novell edition of OpenOffice.org 2, and is available on the Sun Ultra machines now.
