The company plans to offer the fleet management, track your buddy, advertisement and chatting services. The fleet management service offers vehicle tracking for logistic companies, while the track your buddy service enable mobile users to keep track of the location of a friend.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) said that the advertisement service enables interested parties to send advertisement messages to subscribers in a limited area. It also said that it plans to roll out the services by December 2007, including a chatting service.

In July 2006, the company signed Telenity, a provider of converged services platforms and applications for communications networks, to offer location-based services (LBS) solution.

LBS value added services are absolutely essential for carriers to effectively compete and differentiate in the wireless marketplace. Worldwide carrier revenues from LBS are expected to climb from a little less than $1 billion in 2005 to nearly $8.5 billion by 2010, said Dilip Singh, chief executive at Telenity.

Telenity is offering its Canvas location enabling server and 14 LBS to BSNL as value added services to its mobile customers.

BSNL’s competitor Vodafone also offers similar LBS such as tracking the location of a friend or colleague and tracking vehicular movement.
