Dot Hill, a provider of Unified Virtual Storage and SAN storage offerings, has unveiled a new portfolio of unified virtual storage offerings -AssuredUVS Standard and AssuredUVS Datacenter – designed to address challenges from from the data centre to the CEO suite faced by organisations.
Dot Hill’s AssuredUVS offerings, which are based on based on technology acquired from Cloverleaf Communications, are built on Dot Hill architecture, which combines virtualisation and automated management software with its AssuredSAN storage platforms.
AssuredUVS Standard, with 50 terabytes (TB) initial licensed capacity, is designed to virtualise storage for mid-sized businesses, and easily scales to a maximum of 250TB, while the datacentre edition employs a scale-out model for higher performance and capacities up to 6PB.
Dot Hill said its new offerings bring the benefits of storage virtualisation to the SMB and SME markets, by combining the requisite application, servers and storage into a versatile appliance.
The new offerings consolidate and virtualise storage across storage protocols, environments, and mixed storage platforms to support multiple server applications.
This enables organisations to manage combinations of block storage (Fibre Channel or iSCSI) and file storage (NAS systems with CIFS or NFS) via a common set of data management features.
Dot Hill director of Marketing Jim Jonez said storage assets are typically purchased for specific purposes, but over time this has created silos of storage, some of which are under-utilised, while others have reached capacity, and there’s never been a solid mid range offering to overcome this obstacle until now.
