Ericsson has signed a two year contract from India-based cellular service provider Vodafone Essar to provide 3G HSPA hardware, software and related services to Vodafone’s network in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

Under the terms of contract, Ericsson will supply Vodafone with RAN system, network rollout services, tuning, spare parts and training services, along with the 3G common core platform and transmission.

Ericsson will also provide radio access network that includes new multi-standard radio base station RBS 6000 and mobile soft-switching technology, which will boost the capacity of network and evolve it into an IP network.

In addition, Vodafone will deploy Ericsson’s new HSPA technology to deliver services like video telephony, mobile broadband, mobile TV, video on demand, music downloads, video tones, instant messaging, and on line gaming.

Vodafone Essar managing director Marten Pieters said, the strategic alliance with Ericsson will allow the company to deliver and maintain a high quality network which customers expect from it.
