Over in Palo Alto California, HP is restructuring itself into two businesses.
In future HP will be known as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and HP Inc.
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) is among other things its Apollo, Gen 9 and Moonshot servers, 3PAR storage platform, HP OneView management platform, HP Helion Cloud, security and analytics offerings.
By sheer coincidence over In Las Vegas right now there are several thousand IT professionals attending a conference called IBM Enterprise.
This is a conference that is primarily the product of IBM’s System Technology Group and will cover developments in IBM’s enterprise platforms, its Power chip Architecture, its z/OS mainframe business, its PureSystems converged hardware offerings, cloud offerings and its storage platforms.
These two businesses have mainly comparable product lines will be fighting it out over the next 12 months.
Naturally the financial markets initial reaction is focused on short term shareholder value.
The real value question can only be answered through execution.
