STEC has launched the ZeusRAM solid state drive (SSD), a new low latency SSD designed for fast and continuous read/write workloads including metadata logging, journaling, and database indexing applications.

STEC claims that the new SSD minimises latency to sub 23 microseconds, and enables network attached and unified storage appliances to have high-speed access to metadata.

Th new ZeusRAM utilises fully-backed up DRAM to flash, ensuring power back-up protection in the event of a host system’s power loss.

The company said that the new SSD, currently sampling into high-performance enterprise OEMs, will be equipped in a 3.5-inch standard form factor with native 6Gb SAS interface.

STEC chairman and CEO said that the introduction of ZeusRAM leverages the company’s extensive design expertise to engineer a high-performance offering to minimise new storage bottlenecks.
