Google Sites led the US explicit core search market in August with 65.4% market share, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 17.4% (up 0.3 percentage points) and Microsoft sites with 11.1%, according to a report from research firm comScore.

According to the report, Americans conducted 15.7 billion total core searches in August 2010, with Google sites accounting for 60.5% of share, down from 61.6% in July.

Yahoo! Sites US’ total core search market increased to 21% in August 2010 from 20.1% in July, while Microsoft sites grabbed 12.8% market share, up 0.2 percentage points versus July.

Ask Network grabbed 3.5% of the US core search market, while AOL Network accounted for 2.2%, remaining flat at July levels.

In August 2010, Google accounted for 10.3 billion search queries, followed by Yahoo! sites with 2.7 billion queries and Microsoft sites with 1.7 billion searches.

According to the report, Ask.com search queries increased by 2% to 598 million from 588 million, while AOL search network queries increased marginally to 366 million from 365 million in July.
