Brocade has unveiled the new MLXe Core Router and IEEE standards-based 100 GbE blade.
The company said that the new MLXe routers are fully interoperable with and support all existing Brocade MLX and NetIron XMR blades.
The 100 GbE blade integrates with and operates across all the company’s MLX, MLXe and NetIron XMR routers.
Brocade Service Provider Products vice president Ken Cheng said that the new offerings are technological breakthroughs developed to help service provider and data centre customers collapse their infrastructure layers, allowing for reduced overhead and massive scalability without compromising performance or efficiency.
The company claimed that its MLXe 15.36 Terabits per second (Tbps) fabric delivers four times the 100 GbE wire-speed density and nine times the system capacity of competing routers.
When installed in the MLXe routers, the new 100 GbE blades enable service providers to deploy Terabit-per-second trunk, which utilises multiple ports in a single logical link.
The MLXe router feature 4.8 billion packets per second performance and provides five times the IPv6 forwarding capacity compared to competing offerings.
The MLXe router and newly introduced Multi-Chassis Trunk (MCT) innovation simplify data centre networks and increase resiliency for customers moving to 10 GbE-enabled servers.
Brocade also introduced Network Advisor, an unified network management offering for the company’s Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), wireless, Ethernet switching, and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks.
The company said that this offering enables customers to automatically discover, manage and monitor its full networking portfolio including IP/MPLS routers, as well as Ethernet switches, application delivery controllers, wireless LAN, Fibre Channel SAN and FCoE switches.
The MLXe router is available today in 4-, 8-, 16- and 32-slot configurations and has a starting list price of $22,245.
The 100 GbE blade is orderable today with general availability planned for the first half of 2011.
The list price for the 100 GbE blade starts at $194,995 for two ports of 100 GbE in a single blade.
