Dell Data Center Solutions ( DCS) has introduced Viking server, which features Intel Xeon 3400 series processor technologies and packs 12 servers in a 3U chassis.

The company said that the new server is designed to meet power and density expectations of Web 2.0 and hosting customers and shared-infrastructure design that reduces the number of individual fans per server by 80% and the associated power to cool by up to 50%.

Dell said that its new server’s cold-aisle serviceable design allows customers to raise overall data centre temperatures and reduce overall energy consumption, while remaining OSHA compliant.

Dell general manager of Data Center Solutions division Roy Guillen said that there is a growing customer segment of Web hosting companies with unique power, performance, and enterprise design needs.

"We have listened to these businesses to learn their pain points and have collaborated with Intel to provide an enterprise-class computing solution that drives down costs while improving efficiency," Guillen said
