Apple has unveiled the new iPod touch, which features a Retina display, FaceTime video calling, and HD video recording.

The company claims that the its new iPod is the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever, which features A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center, and up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

The Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels, and 326 pixels per inch, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic, the company said.

The iPod touch A4 chip provides users with exceptional processor, graphics performance, and long battery life.

Apple said that the new iPod touch comes with the iOS 4.1 new version of mobile operating system that enables new features like FaceTime video calling, multitasking, folders and Game Center.

The new device also features front-facing camera and mic that enables users to make FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi, while a rear-facing camera allows users to capture HD video and share it via email, MobileMe and YouTube.

The new iPod comes with the App Store that enables users to access over 250,000 apps, including over 65,000 game and entertainment titles to choose from.

According to the company, the new iPod touch will be available next week for a suggested price of $229 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model through the online Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.
