IBM has extended its family of four-socket servers by introducing System x3755 M3 rack server equipped with AMD Opteron processor, and has unveiled the two-socket, storage-rich System x3630 M3 rack server equipped with Intel Xeon processor.

The new x3755 M3 rack servers provides performance for clients who are outgrowing their current two-socket IT infrastructure, as CPU-hungry applications can benefit from the higher I/O throughput and large memory footprint of the x3755 M3, according to the company.

The new four-socket server provides up to four processors, 32 memory slots and 16TB of local storage in a 2U server, increasing performance and capacity in the same footprint as today’s 2U, two-socket servers.

The two-socket server provides up to 28TB of internal storage, and enables clients to maximise internal storage density in a two-socket server with the lowest-cost-per-terabyte in the IBM System x portfolio.

According to IBM, the new System x3630 M3 rack server is for companies which deploy workloads such as on-line gaming, video and photo sharing, imaging, blogging and transactional workloads.
