Novell has reported net revenues of $199m for the third quarter of fiscal 2010, down 8% compared to net revenues of $216.1m for the same period last year.

The company posted an operating income of $21.1m for the third quarter, compared to $21.4m in the same period last year.

For the third fiscal quarter ended 31 July 2010, the company posted a net income of $15.7m, a decline of 6%, compared to net income of $16.7m in the same period last year.

Novell has reported software licenses revenue of $25m, a decrease from $27m for the same period last year, while maintenance and subscriptions revenues decreased to $152.5m and $22m from $164m and $25.4m, respectively.

Novell president and chief executive officer Ron Hovsepian said their third quarter revenue was below their initial expectations, which they believe is principally related to customer uncertainty associated with the Novell Board of Directors’ ongoing review of various alternatives to enhance stockholder value as described in Novell’s 20 March 2010 statement.

"The growth prospects of our target markets remain strong and our focus going forward is on returning to top line growth via execution of our differentiated strategy, WorkloadIQ," Hovsepian said.
