Vodafone has entered into partnership with Huawei and Ericsson for its LTE upgrade. The company said that it will start work on the LTE upgrade at the end of September, and by next year 1,500 base stations will incorporate LTE technology.

Friedrich Joussen, CEO of Vodafone Germany, said that they eventually plan to upgrade all base stations in Germany to LTE – the next generation mobile communications technology.

Mr Joussen said: "These investments will ensure in the mid-term that the new broadband wireless standard is available to customers and in the coming years broadband Internet will be available all over Germany."

The company said that they will be commencing network extension into regions which don’t currently have any coverage in the near future, providing actual transmission speeds of around 3mbit/s.

Mr Joussen, said: "In the cities, we are expecting much higher average speeds: "Mobile Internet is becoming a real fixed line alternative."
