General Dynamics Itronix, a business unit of General Dynamics, has introduced four new ultra-thin client computers to its line of Tadpole products that feature integrated VPN and ‘instant-on’ access to user environments on networks including 3G, LAN or WAN.

The company said that its new products look like a typical PC and act like one when connected to a server. They embody high-resolution, daylight-viewable displays and are free of hard drives, memory, operating system or application software. In addition, the products feature a plug-and-play set up or replacement for one, or one thousand ultra-thin clients and consume 50% less power than a PC.

General Dynamics Itronix said that its new Tadpole M1000 device is designed for distributed, highly mobile users and general purpose computing. Its M1500 model includes all of the features of the M1000 along with a 15-inch LCD screen that supports high-definition multimedia, 3-D imaging and video and.

The manufacturer said that its new wireless desktop unit Tadpole Pulsar Premium wireless desktop unit is designed for general-purpose computin, while the Pulsar model is configured for complex operations including dual displays, optical networking, high-definition multimedia, 3-D video and imaging.

Mark Johnston, general manager for General Dynamics Itronix operations, said, "Core computing is moving from the end-user to secure centralized servers. Enabling that transition, the Tadpole line of ultra-thin clients, with enterprise class features and capabilities, allow IT teams to work on server-based capabilities and business process efficiencies, while saving costs on IT security, administration, help-desk and other expenses."
