iPass, a provider of enterprise mobility services, has introduced a set of enhancements to its Open Mobile Platform that provide enterprises with instant access to free Wi-Fi and real-time 3G control for least cost connection management.
The company said that the new platform functionality gives enterprise flexibility to define and tailor their own mobility services, with a customisable master connection manager. The new functionality provides enterprises the tools that offer visibility into 3G costs and help manage them down.
iPass is offering various new enhancements to its cloud-based Open Mobile platform. The first addition is a free Wi-Fi service OpenAccess that gives mobile employees instant access to validated free Wi-Fi hotspots. The logon process is fully scripted and mobile employees do not need to present credentials or sign-up to an unknown network.
The second addition to the Open Mobile Platform is new reports that detail 3G usage by user and location and allows enterprises to set thresholds to alert mobile employees or end a session when thresholds are reached. Admins can also set policy blocks for 3G roaming, recognising when an employee’s 3G card is being used on a roaming network.
The new release of the Open Mobile Platform enables enterprises and partners to customise the brand, look and feel of both the Open Mobile portal and the Open Mobile client, and deliver RSS feeds to their employees’ desktops, iPass said.
Evan Kaplan, president and CEO of iPass, said: "Our customers are demanding more predictability and control of their enterprise mobility costs. With the enhancements that we announced today, we are enabling our customers to radically change the economics of enterprise mobility within their organisations."
