Polycom, a provider of telepresence, video, and voice communications offerings, has released a new telepresence offering Open Telepresence Experience (OTX) 300, which it claims to support high-definition (HD) video using up to 50% less bandwidth through implementation of standards-based video compression technology H.264 High Profile.
The company said that the new telepresence offering delivers collaboration, including full 1080p video, at up to half the bandwidth of comparable system. It is protected with Lost Packet Recovery technology and enables 1080p video and HD content sharing on monitors that automatically rise on demand.
In addition, the new OTX 300 features multi-functional design that supports a range of business applications beyound telepresence meetings. It also provides connectivity with standards-based telepresence and video conferencing endpoints.
According to Polycom, the new offering provides integration with unified communications platforms and supports integration with Microsoft UC environments, including the Conferencing for Outlook offering. It also features front and rear environmental walls, and an optimised lighting package, and improves acoustic and visual quality and minimises costly room modification requirements.

In addition, we estimate a mid-sized enterprise will spend up to $2.1m less in the first year of a typical Polycom telepresence deployment – including equipment, bandwidth, services and maintenance – versus a comparable deployment from Cisco.
