Nortel has launched its Communications Server (CS) 1500, a new carrier VoIP softswitch that provides a platform for IP communication services. The new CS 1500 comes with new features that provide carriers with remote upgrades and introduces new billing, operations, administration and maintenance capabilities.

Nortel claims that the enhancements to the new CS 1500 utilise SIP business trunking to enable carriers address the demands of their small and medium-size business (SMB) customers and offer a single broadband connection with both voice and data traffic to SMBs with on-site PBX’s.

The CS 1500 also enables carriers to offer IP-Powered applications including unified messaging, click-to-call, single-number service and end user web portals.

In addition, the new CS 1500 enables carriers offer advanced IP voice and multimedia features that enhance the communications for both business and residential subscribers, the company said.
