The Leicester Theatre Trust (LTT) has selected NEC Philips Unified Solutions to power the SIP wireless, fixed and PC-based communication devices at the new Curve theatre.
Opened recently, the 139,000 sq ft Curve theatre has two auditoria. The glass building is said to be equipped with technology at every level, right from the opening of the doors to the scanning of tickets by barcode readers, and stage flying control system.
The LTT wanted to implement a communications system that provided flexibility and mobility for staff and theatre users. NEC Philips rolled out its UC platform, NEC Sphericall, to integrate the communications technologies with business applications at the theatre.
NEC says that Sphericall enables the LTT to connect up to 30,000 ports across Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and analogue phones, gateways and other communications endpoints. By combining XML and SOAP technology the system helps the LTT to access communications web services embedded into critical business processes.
Rob Greig, ICT and operations director at the Leicester Theatre Trust, said: “Every aspect of our business relies on efficient communications, particularly in the run-up to and during performances. The wireless element of the solution enables us to improve our front of house interactions with customers and ensure two-way communications between staff. Unlike the traditional radio technology, the SIP-based wireless provided is fully integrated with the rest of the communications solutions.”
In addition, Sphericall offers a unified contact centre platform for the ticket office, with integration to the theatre’s CRM and point-of-sale applications.
NEC Philips deploys unified communication systems that combine voice, data, mobile, video and IT communications. In December last year, it has equipped Barnsley College with Microsoft Office Communications Server and its own IP telephony for staff communication. Earlier, the City of Sunderland College has chosen NEC’s identity management system for its staff and students across five campuses.
