So a rubbish anti-virus has been rebranded to avoid association with its bizarre founder.
McAfee will have its range of products rebranded as Intel Security as they are released over the next year, Intel boss Brian Krzanich announced at CES yesterday.
The oddest thing is that this hasn’t happened earlier.
While McAfee security software has been plodding along getting steadily worse since its ’90s heyday, founder John McAfee has made the news for a madcap escape from his home in Belize after police named him a person of interest in his neighbour’s death.
You’d surely think, having bought the anti-virus firm back in 2010 for $7bn, that Intel would’ve just changed the name far earlier – it’s not like there wasn’t plenty of justification to do so.
Oh well. It is an undignified end for a once-great piece of software that is now regarded as the butt of jokes, but at least it’s not escaping central America disguised as a ragged salesman.
