Esurance, a personal auto insurance company, has selected Symantec Data Loss Prevention to detect and block unauthorized file transfers to USB drives, and monitor email and web traffic for sensitive customer data such as credit card numbers and social security numbers.

Symantec said that its Symantec Data Loss Prevention also helps Esurance demonstrate compliance with federal regulations including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

Symantec also said that its system helps Esurance reduce the risk of data loss and protect sensitive customer data wherever it is being used or stored. Esurance has a mobile workforce that uses a variety of removable media devices that can be vulnerable to security threats. Protecting data at the endpoint is especially critical for the company.

David Aflak, senior manager of network operations of Esurance, said: We needed a data loss prevention solution that would enable us to prevent unauthorized copying of files to USBs, CDs, and other portable hardware. Symantec gives us visibility into USB usage across endpoints, including laptops and remote systems, without interfering with the activities of our business users.
