The European Commission wants to take the views of computer manufacturers’ and software vendors’ on ways to curb Microsoft’s dominant position in the internet browser market, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The commission has sent out a questionnaire to interested parties enquiring what could be done to solve the problem related to Microsoft’s dominance in the market.
The EU has fined the Microsoft with anti-competitive behaviour because of the way it is tying its Internet Explorer browser to the Windows operating system and preventing competition from other internet browsers in favour of its own Internet Explorer.
Earlier in December 2007, Opera Software has filed a compliant with the EU saying how Microsoft has been abusing its dominant position in PC operating systems and requested the Commission to take the necessary actions to compel Microsoft to allow consumers a real choice of browser.
According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the commission’s questionnaire said that the questions outlined various options for the ballot box of browsers which could be included within Windows.
