By Sam

The National Centre for Universities and Business has launched a top level Task Force to review and make recommendations on the innovation and graduate skills necessary to strengthen the UK’s position in Digital Healthcare.

The Task Force will focus on major challenges, such as the use of real time clinical data, the digital skills of the next generation of healthcare providers, and using digital games in mental health.

It will be chaired by Beverley Bryant, Director of Digital Transformation, NHS Digital; John Jeans, chairman, EM Imaging and UK Biocentre who is an Adviser to the Prime Minister on Medical Technologies and Professor Patrick Johnston VC Queen’s University Belfast.

Digital healthcare and healthy living is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world and the UK must create the right conditions to ensure its businesses and digital healthcare industries are at the forefront of this revolution.

John Jeans said: “Digital technologies can change the way medical professionals care for patients, and their families. I hope the Task Force will identify opportunities for transforming healthcare delivery and explore the potential for new business models in this exciting environment.”

Beverley Bryant said: “Digital is an increasingly helpful interface for people with mental health problems, and this is a great opportunity to try to help resolve anxiety among children and adolescents.  The health and care sector is coming late to digital but momentum is growing and industry can help the sector to digitalise to improve patient care”.

David Docherty, Chief Executive of the National Centre said: “The digital healthcare revolution is one of the most exciting challenges for the UK’s emerging industrial strategy. It is absolutely imperative that businesses, universities and government join forces to deliver and drive success.”
