Schneider Electric is a French company that provides software, hardware and services for energy management.

The multinational company, which is listed as a Fortune Global 500 company, is the parent company of companies such as Square D, Pelco, APC and others.

As of 2016, the company was found to have 20,000 patents, with over 160,000 employees across 100 countries.

Schneider Electric has built its business focusing on helping businesses to enable energy users to address three global megatrends.

These trends, urbanisation, digitissation, and industrialisation have been converging to make meeting the world’s energy demands increasing difficult. For example, one of the big issues is that over the next 40 years, energy consumption is expected to increase by 50%.

What about greenhouse gas emissions?

An additional challenge of this is that greenhouse gas emissions must be cut. In order to try and address this, Schneider Electric is focusing on more electric, digitised and more decentralised energy sources.

The company’s modern approach to this includes a portfolio of connected products, edge control, and apps, analytics & services.

The edge control element is where the company overlays connected products with hardware and software in order to make real-time automation and control decisions at a local, operational level.

Schneider Electric’s solutions rely upon cloud connectivity to help gather data from its Internet of Things connected solutions and services. This data can then be analysed in order to make improvements.
