EE is a mobile network in the UK, owned by telecoms company BT.
EE, originally standing for ‘Everything Everywhere’, was formed from the merger of the T-Mobile and Orange networks in 2010.
It competes with the other three mobile network operators, O2, Vodafone and Three.
BT, the largest provider of broadband and fixed telecoms in the UK, announced its intention to acquire EE in 2015. BT paid £12.5 billion in the acquisition, which was completed in 2016.
How will being owned by BT affect you?
BT-EE has the largest number of mobile customers of any UK network and currently holds the largest amount of mobile spectrum.
EE provides services to both consumers and businesses. The combined company is split into six lines of business: Consumer, EE, Business and Public Sector, Global Services, Wholesale and Venture and Openreach.
EE was also a leader in the adoption of 4G across the UK network.
The company is headed by Marc Allera, who took over from previous CEO Olaf Swantee after the BT acquisition.
