Quantum Telecom has entered into an exclusive agreement with Israel-based Runcom Technologies for the development, manufacturing and selling of ultra low cost WiMAX fixed and mobile handsets.
The Quantum ultra low cost WiMAX handsets will be embedded with Runcom’s OFDMA technology providing fixed and mobile WiMAX services to operators rolling out 4th generation broadband wireless access (BWA) networks.
The handsets include GSM and WiMAX modems and are said to be capable of traditional voice calls, VoIP voice calls, and high speed data connection of up to 10Mbps on 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz WiMAX spectrum.
In addition, Quantum has provided Runcom Technologies an option to purchase up to 30% of its shares, at $0.30 per share within 24 months, subject to a definitive agreement.

Quantum launched our first WiMAX handset during CES Conference in Las Vegas last week, and will demonstrate its handset capabilities in the following 3GSM Conference in Barcelona in February 2009. Quantum expects orders for delivery in Q3 2009.
