Global data centre operator, Colt Data Centre Services, is to build a new flagship data centre in Frankfurt. Further serving the German market, the new data centre follows its recent acquisition of a Greenfield site close to Frankfurt city centre.

The announcement forms part of a major European investment drive by the company, which also sees further expansion of its existing data centres in London and Paris.

The new data centre is expected to complement Colt Data Centre Services’ ‘Frankfurt 1’ site, which will measure 8,000 sqm across 12 data halls with a significant power capacity of 18MW.

Its carrier-neutral site will be the first data centre to be built using the company’s new modular design technology in the German market.

Detlef Spang, EVP of Colt Data Centre Services said: “Frankfurt remains a key market for us and one where we are seeing incredibly strong demand in colocation opportunities, which require large contiguous space.”

The German data centre market has an estimated growth of ten percent year-on-year, with Frankfurt being the central hub. 50 percent of all large data centres are located in Frankfurt and its vicinity.

coltColt Data Services also recently announced an expansion of its flagship UK site based in London, which represents an extra 4 x 500m2 data halls, with a total IT load 6.4MW.

The capacity is expected to be ready for service in January 2017, with the construction of a further two data halls planned to commence shortly.

The company is also expanding its data centre in Paris, which will accommodate a total IT load of 3.2MW.
