Integrated Device Technology (IDT) has introduced PanelPort ViewXpand, a new VESA DisplayPort-based controller providing high-definition multi-monitor capability without the need for an additional graphics card.

The company claims that the new controller could be placed within a notebook, on a docking station, in a stand-alone dongle or on DisplayPort-compatible monitors, allowing original design manufacturers to customise the multi-monitor experience for their customers.

The company said that the plug-and-play configuration of the new controller allows end users to use multiple monitors from a single digital output port for each application. It is HD compatible and has no display application limitations.

The company also claimed that the new controller is compliant to the DisplayPort 1.1a standard. Additionally, the device supports video interface and includes HDCP1.3 content protection to play back Blu-ray and DVD movies. Also, no additional power or external AC adapter is required when used as a pure DisplayPort dongle.

Bruce Montag, chairman of the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), said: “IDT’s innovative multi-monitor solution is a great example of how DisplayPort’s unique architecture can be leveraged to provide compelling, differentiated and much-valued features for end users.”
