Oracle is increasing the reliability of the connections to its Cloud by tapping in to Verizon and its Secure Cloud Interconnect services.

The Verizon service, which will link to Oracle FastConnect, is meant to give customers Big Red’s customers the ability to connect to its data centres located in the U.S. and Europe.

One of the benefits is listed as being an improved performance that reduces latency.

Use cases are said to be the ability to take advantage of Software Defined Networking capabilities to help gain control over cloud environment.

The service will offer consumption-based bandwidth, pre-provisions on-demand resources, controlled application performance and varying classes of service that can be provisioned through Verizon’s Dynamic Network Manager.

Shawn Hakl, VP of enterprise networking and innovation at Verizon, said: “Verizon Secure Cloud Interconnect for Oracle FastConnect allows users to connect to applications simply, securely and reliably.”

Customers will be able to establish a high-speed private MPLS connection between existing IT infrastructure and the cloud compute resources on the Oracle Cloud.

Additional benefits of the service are that enterprises will be able to store data in a variety of settings. This means that businesses will be able to prepare for changing conditions in order to fully comply with regulations and other requirements.

Oracle is not the first to tap into Verizon’s Secure Cloud Interconnect as they follow in the footsteps of Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, HPE Rapid Connect, IBM Cloud Softlayer, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, Salesforce, SAP, and Verizon Cloud.

The service from Verizon is built on the company’s private IP network that is said to offer any-to-any connectivity.

Similar services are also available from the likes of Equinix and Digital Realty. Digital Realty launched its Service Exchange in order to provide private connections between enterprise data centres and public cloud services such as AWS, IBM and more.
