New Zealand-based automated airport baggage specialist, Glidepath, has won a $32m contract to design, manufacture and install a new integrated baggage handling and security screening system at the Nashville International Airport in Tennessee.

The security project, due for completion in 2010, will see Glidepath working alongside airport architects, Gresham, Smith and Partners, and local contractor Messer Construction, to design and build a new technologically advanced system for sorting and detecting explosive devices and compounds in checked baggage. Glidepath has a manufacturing facility in Dallas, Texas.

Matt Williams, Glidepath’s North America Chief Executive, said: We have recently doubled the manufacturing capacity at our Dallas plant and increased our corporate resources and capability to meet strong demand for emerging customer requirements. Our investment reflects our healthy order book and strong demand for automated airport baggage handling and security solutions to position us competitively for ongoing growth.

Glidepath, working with architects Gresham, Smith and Partners, had recently commenced the installation phase of a new baggage handling system (BHS) at the RenoTahoe International Airport, which is due to go live later in 2009.

The Auckland headquartered Glidepath Group provides systems for initial feasibility studies and for design, manufacture, installation, operations and maintenance.
