ScrapBook is an extension that can be added to the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

ScrapBook is also the title of a Mac OS application used to store images and sound/text clippings.

For Firefox the extension adds enhanced scrapbooking, page saving, bookmarking and note taking functionality.

The capabilities basically become a way of preserving personal information that the user wants to keep hold of.

Pages that are saved are stored on the local computer system, which means that a user won’t be able to locate the files if they were on a different device and wanted to find them.

ScrapBook proved itself to be a popular extension, winning the “Most useful upgrade extension” award in Mozilla’s 2006 “Extent Firefox” competition.

However, there hasn’t been an update to the extension since the 13th April 2015 from the original developer Murota Loboratory.

Fortunately though it is now developed by ScrapBook X, an open source project which maintains the architecture and fixes bugs.
