ooVoo is a video chat and instant messaging app.

ooVoo was released in 2007 and can be used on Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone, Mac OS X, Android, iOS and Facebook.

The service is similar to Microsoft’s Skype, with registered users able to communicate via free instant messaging, voice and video chat.

ooVoo also offers conferencing software which allows video and audio calls for up to 12 users, as well as desktop sharing and calls to landline and mobile phones.

Clayton Mathile, an Ohio entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, founded ooVoo in 2006, with the official release coming the following year.

Claiming the title as the world’s largest, independent video chat and messaging app, the company further claims to have over 150 million registered users.

The service is mainly used by those under the age of 25, with 65% of ooVoo’s user base belonging to that age group. Company stats put its user base as 47% male and 53% female, with oovoo stating that they have seen significant growth in the UK, Canada and Japan.

ooVoo makes its money through advertising.
