BIND is an acronym for Berkeley Internet Name Domain.
BIND is Domain Name System (DNS) software for computers or services connected to the internet. The system acts as a decentralised categoriser which associates names with various information.
Moreover, a DNS translates registered and ready-known domain names to the numerical internet protocol address for reasons of identification and addressing.
Initially the software was designed at the University of California Berkeley in the early 1980s. It was written by Douglas Terry, Mark Painter, David Riggle and Songnian Zhou, graduate students from the university.
