Gartner’s Symposium finished yesterday over in Orlando, Florida, and the analysts have come up with some interesting facts to distract you from your work for five minutes.
Did you know, for instance, that Google’s ad revenue surpassed that of the entire US print industry this year?
Or that more than half a million apps have been developed in the last three years, and downloaded 10.9bn times?
Worryingly, apparently more people now have mobile access than access to safe drinking water and electricity, while one in five couples meet online – and one in five divorces are blamed on Facebook, bizarrely.
Other cool factoids include that every second, 8,000 Instagram users ‘like’ a photo on the site, while 90% of decisions to buy something now begin with an online search.
Looking to the future, mobile commerce is expected to surpass $25bn by the end of this year, and by 2015 one-third of consumer technology marketing budgets will be spent on digital strategies.
